When I switched from realism to abstract in 2015, I did so because painting in a realistic style no longer excited or challenged me. I knew I needed to get outside my comfort zone to grow artistically. Abstract seemed to be the answer.
That started me on a journey that led me down many paths. Some better than others, but all worthwhile learning experiences. I've had moments of excitement and discovery and moments of frustration. I'm still finding my signature style, but I am excited about how far I've come.
The last few weeks, however, I've had a bit more trouble moving forward, I've felt stuck and not as motivated as usual.
Then along came Louise Fletcher and her marvelous "Find Your Joy" taster course. Finding new joy through my art was exactly what I needed, so I signed up for the course. It started on June 15th and ended on June 23rd.
I can't believe how much Louise helped me in one short week! She had a way of "getting me out of my own way" - which is one of my biggest stumbling blocks - and getting me to just play.
There were four exercises during that week. She emphasized that we are NOT trying to do final, finished paintings or even pretty paintings. In fact, one to the exercises was, "You must paint a really ugly painting."
I am going to swallow my pride a bit (Yikes!) and show you a few of the pieces I did during the course.
These first two are from lesson one.
